Look Into The Future
The Cloak of Death, by spicey

The pouring rain. How lovely. To him it was a lovely night indeed. A velvet night. No lighting or thunder. No, not even wind. Just rain. From the hill that he stood on, he could see the sleeping city that lay below. Fog was rising from the dark, wet, empty streets. A light shone through a few windows. The city had their electic back on. Electric is like a drug, once you got a taste of it, its hard to live without. They'll need him more now. He was meant to lead them. He knew how. They'll need a ruler who was kind but strict. A leader who could forgive and understand them as well. He could understand but to forgive, that was always hard for him. So before he can lead this city, he needed to get this pain out. To destroy the ones that took away the safty that he felt in his home. Who took his friend away, never to see him again. To destroy the ones who are making him become the city's leader. He could have always have taken the city over. He had the intelligence that they needed. He never wanted the responslbility though. NEVER! Now he has no choice. He was needed to save the lives of the people that dwelled in the city. To save them from the pain that he felt. He was neede to protect the lost, the sick, and the weak. After all isn't that how the story goes. Thinking about this with a weak smile, he takes off the black hooded cloak that he wore. His clothes cling to him from the rain. He looks over his shoulder to stare at Luke and the Guarding. A single bolt of lighting races across the sky, casting a small amount of light on their dead faces. Their eyes empity of life. The death stare. He bends down to pick up the bl00dy sickle laying in the grass. Two down and five to go, how easy it is to get away with murder these days. He wipes the loose grass blades off his hands and onto his pant legs. Walking over to the edge of the hill, he raises his left hand over the cliff. Opens his hand and drops the sickle into the black raging sea below. The heavy blade's weights sink the sickle down to the sandy bottom. The sae will keep it safe for the years that will follow. He turns and starts heading down the wet slopes of the hill. Down into the dark city that lays before him. The rain washing away his foot prints as if it was on his side , watching his back for him.

They were all seated in the cafe eating lunch(some eating breakfast). Kc comes pounding up the stairs yelling with spit flying out of his mounth.
"Guess what! You guys are never going to guess what!" Ahh Kc, always had a way of finding things out. You must admit you love him for that.
"Quite the yelling! Its too early for this."Lex demanded.
"If you got up in the morning hours maybe you'd be up for some news!" Bray said."Sorry Lex, Its been quiet around here lately. Its almost scary."
"Don't worry about what time I get up. Maybe you can't handle things if I'm not there by your side to guide you, Eh?" Lex shot back. Bray just rolled his eyes. Bray and Lex, legions of their own. That is till you take something away that they love, then they crumble like broken bones.
"Shut up the both of you!" cried Ebony. Now she is something you don't want to mess with. She would hit you even if she is down. Ellie yanks out her notebook that she keeps close to her. She needs a great head line story for her news paper. You can rest a sure that this is going to be a nice heading too. Ellie, however, will never wright it. Her emotions will get the best of her. Not to worry the news has already reached the street of the city.
"They just found Luke and the Guarding dead!"stated Kc.
"Luke! No! Not Luke!" wailed Ellie, the notebook falls to her feet. Alice comes to stand by her.
"Wait! Everyone just calm down for a moment! Kc,"Amber said in that calming voice that Bray loves so much."Who found them, where did they, and are you sure about this. We don't want this to be anouther trick."
"Who cares!"Lex said."The Guarding is dead!"
"Well I care!" cried Ned."This person should be hunted down!"Ned stands up and pounds his fist on the table."The fen should be heavily guarded and escorted back here at once! This person, who took justice into his or her own hands, should be rewarded for their actions!"
"You are sick!"Salene said. Ned just smiled.
"I do not want to hear this." Trudy said nervously as she got up from the table.
"Why? Are you afraid you will be next?"asked Jack. Trudy looks into his eyes and leaves the cafe with Brady clinging to her hip.
"Jack! How can you say that!"May asked.
"He does have a point.I mean what if she is the next target."Cloe says in that, Iknow it, voice of hers. The room grew silent.
"So Kc, what happened?" Lex asked. How he hates the silent, such a dirty weapon.
"Well I was in the square when I got a swift of a tale being told. So I walk up to the group that was gathering around the Healers.
You guys remember the Healers? The group that goes around to help who ever they can. Well the story goes that the Healers were coming from the north. They saw something on the north hill that over looks the city. So they climb up to get a better look.As they reach the top of the hill the image comes into focus. It was Luke and the Guarding. They were beheaded! There heads mounted on steaks that are pounded deep into the ground! Their bodies buried beneath their heads. No foot prints were visible to see which way the killer went. I went up on The North Hill myself. You know, just to make sure. Its all true. Every last word of it. Oh yea, one more thing. On the steaks there is a message craved into them.It says,"Kc takes a breath, clears his throat "They always believed they were higher then us.We all knew that they were and forever be beneath us." Now is the time someone should drop a pin in the cafe. The Mall Rats all cuddled in their silence. Arms wrapped around a few of the members to ward off the chill that raced up their spines. Then at last Ellie bolts for the door. Alice looks at Jack. He shrugs at Alice and watches as she trails after her sister. Why should he care. She was crying over anouther man after all. Ned shifts in his seat only because Alice would come to him to cry on his shoulder for the pain her sister is going through. He would hold her so close to him and tell her everything will be all right. There, there now. Ned smiled and shifted again. Ebony just stood there with her arms crossed over her chest, thinking someone had balls in this city. Tai-san stood up, shoulders back, chin jolted up and she storms out of the cafe.
"It could have been anyone in this city. Hell, anyone beyond the city."Ryan stated.
"Yea, maybe someone we don't want to mess with."added May. Pride looks at her with sad eyes.
"Maybe we're to late. I mean, maybe we already messed with the wrong person."he said.
"I hope your wrong, Pride. I hope your wrong." said Amber in a gloomy voice.
As the day wore on celebration was all around. People are happy that the Guarding was expired. No one was looking for the murder. The whole city would be a suspect. Some felt the celebration was uncallesd for. There wasn't many that felt that way, so you can believe it was a kick *** party. A lot of the city dwellers tried to take credit for the killings. There were several different stories out on the street. All of them were wonderful and very well could have happened. Between you and me though, we know how. Don't we?
Trudy walks into Jack's room with a light tap at the door (well a piece of board used for the door).
"Hi." she says, knowing it wouldn't be warm greeting that she got from him.
"What do you want?" Jack asked, not looking at her.
"I um came to invite you to dinner. I want to make you a I'm sorry sort of dinner. Please? We could talk."she begged.
"A dinner doesn't make things better , Trudy. Besides, didn't you try to kill Lex with dinner?"stated Jack.
"Please Jack. I'm trying. I know I can't make things right. You can't hate me for the rest of your life. It's not who you are, Jack." Trudysaid.
"Fine I'll go. If it doesn't work, you have to stop bugging me." He turns around in his seat to face her and adds," Don't get your hopes up, Trudy."
"Dinner tonight at six, just you and me? Okay?"she ask hopefully.
"Fine, at six."Jack confirms the dinner plans and turns away. Back to the broken junk on his desk. Trudy bounces out of his room. All she needed was time to make him understand why she did what she did.
"Salene! Could you help me? I need a babysitter at four. I'm cooking Jack a I'm sorry dinner and I want everthing to be just right. Brady seems to get into everything. Could you please. No longer then eight."
"Sure. I'd love to. Ryan said that he would most likely be on guard duty tonight."piped Salene.
"Well then it works out for the both of us."Trudy said.
An hour later Trudy was in the kitchen preparing the meal that lay ahead of her. She'll need plenty of wine. Jack was moody, if she got him drunk maybe he would be in a talking mood. Leaving things to simmer, she leaves the kitchen to fetch a bottle of wine. Silently a black hooded figure glides into the kitchen. He takes the lid off one of the pots and empties a white powdery substance into the pot. Also he leaves an empty pill bottle on the counter beside the sink. He quickly leaves the kitchen.Soon after Trudy comes back with a bottle of wine. She places it on the counter beside the stove. She starts to stir, mix and of course taste her meals, just to make sure everything is okay for tonight. Suddenly she feels a tightness in her throat. Confuse, but not fighten yet, she goes over to the sink to get a glass of water. The rim touches her lips softly. That's when she catches sight of the pill bottle. Putting the glass down she picks it up the bottle, but things are blurry. She feel so tired. She collapes onto the floor. The pill bottle still in her hands. Her dinner burning on the stove top. When they find her, it will be so burnt they would have to throw it away.
Meanwhile, as Trudy lays dead upstair, Ebony starts a meeting.
"So everyone agrees with me? That we have to beef up security. That means guard duty twenty-four hours people."She states as she paces the floor."When you pick your guard buddy make sure you get along with them. We don't want someone to sneak pass because two people can't stop fighting. Understand?"Everyone nodded."Good." She looks around at the Mall Rats."Well, start picking or I'll pick for you."
"Me and Ryan."Lex says. Ryan nodded in agreement.
"I want Alice." Ned said. After awhile he added."I don't mean it that way."Alice looks at him."Well I do, I just..."his voice trailed away as he looked down at his hands.
"Me and Cloe." Kc said. Cloe rolled her eyes, but didn't refuse.
"Amber."said Bray.
"May."Pride stated.
"Well then, I'll take Jack. Ellie still seams rattled." Ebony said. Lex volunteer the first shift. The rest of the rats started to head their separate ways, whispering amoung them self's.

At seven Salene bounds down the stairs with Brady in one arm and two bottled water in the other. She was hoping to spend sometime with Ryan. Maybe even get Lex's idea on the killing that took place on the hill. After all, he does think like a criminal.Reaching the bottom of the stairs and turning to go into the sewer, she catches Jack in the corner of her eye. She walks over to his room. Watching him for awhile, trying to figure out what mood he was in. He was working on some junk on his table. He could loose track of time when he's working.
"Hi," she says softly. He looks up at her and Brady, an easy smile plays on his face.
"Hi, Salene. What's up?" he ask.
"I was on my way to see Ryan,"she pauses then adds"Aren't you suppose to be having dinner with Trudy?" Jack smakes his forhead with the palm of his hand.
"Yea. I didn't realize the time. Could you run up and tell her I'm on my way? I just need to clean this stuff up," he ask of her.
"Yea, sure. No problem." she smiles and heads for the stairs. When she reaches Trudy's room, she begans to talk.
"Trudy i just saw Jack. He's coming up. He was tinkering with some stuff. You know how he gets..." Her voice dies as she sees Trudy lying on the floor with a pill bottle in clasped in her hand. The food on the stove was burnt dry. Salene did the only thing she could think of, she screamed. Brady cried as though she knew what had happened.
They all gathered on the bank beside a small stream. Amber takes a piece of paper from her pocket. It was a note that they found on Trudy's bed. She begins to read it.
The note read of how guilty she felt. To forgive her for not being strong. She felt that somewhere down the road someone would want her dead for the her deeds as a Chosen. She ask if Ryan and Salene would become Brady's foster parents. If the whole tribe would make sure that Brady stayed safe. And Trudy ask Jack not to feel guilty. That he was right, dinner wouldn't solve anything. Amber, then folds the note up and replaces in her pocket. Jack looks down at his shoes, looking guilty. Tai-san wanted Trudy to be buried by Dale, to keep the tribe together. Jack, however, refused. Told them that he would dig her up and drag her in the nearest bush. So they settled here. It was a lovely place. In another year wild flowers would cover her grave.

As the weeks wore on the Mall Rats adjusted to the tragic that took place.
"We need to get back into the life of the city. Trading isn't enough. We have trading post popping out all over the place,"Bray stated at a tribe meeting."Anyone have any ideas?"
"I do. We could make a tournament between the other tribes. Maybe even a trophy to fight over, like school days,"Pride said.
"That's a good idea. We could even have a festival to follow it," Amber said."All in favor." Evryone raised thier hands.
"Okay, now we have the food supply to talk about," Amber stated.
"I was thinking that we could build a city geen house. We could use the window of abandon buildings in the area. Maybe even call it the Mighty Oak. It's something Dale use to say," Jack told the rest of the tribe.
"Yea, we could get the whole city to help," Alice agreed.
"Yea and we can kick back and watch," Kc said with a grin.
"No I don't think so, Kc. As a matter of fact I think you should work the first shift and pick up rocks," Ebony said. Everyone agreed to the idea.
"All this is fine and dandy, but what is the use if we don't all follow the same law? What we need is a form of government for the entire city. Oh I know we have been down this road before. If we come up with an idea the whole city would agree on, well we could become one of the most advance cities since the virus," Ebony advised everyone as she paced the floor." I have an idea on this. Let me run it by you,"everyone rolled thier eyes. "We have a High leader. His job is to confirm laws that the tribe leaders bring forth to him. If he doesn't agree with it, he passes it back with reason of why it wouldn't work. He could also make suggestions himself. The tribe ******s will look over his suggestions and agree or not. They pass it back and forth till something comes out that they all can agree on."Ebony stops and looks around. Some looked bored. The others, the ones that mattered seem to like the idea. Sure it would need fixed up a bit. Other tribes might have other jobs for the High ****** to do.
"And just how is this High leader to be chosen," asked Bray.
"We have an election," Jack said. "Everyone is allowed to vote. Anyone can enter. Even Lex, because it's a vote. If the citizens don't like his views, they don't vote for him." Everyone looks at him.
"You and Ebony on this together,"Amber asked.
"No. When Jack and I wore on guard duty, we wore debating about forms of government. Which would work what wouldn't. Jack came up with this idea, but wasn't sure if you would like it."
"Well it needs some work to it. I'll run it though the other tribes first. I like it," Amber admitted.
"Meeting adjurned," cried Bray. Everyone got up to leave.

That night, May passes the stairs to bo to her room. She notice one of her necklace on the edge of the balcony, right outside the guide rails. She walks over to it, woundering how it got there. Tai-san walks passed and see her bending over the rail to retrieve the necklace.
"May, you must be careful,"she said. At that moment the rail came loose, letting May fall to the cold marble floor below. Tai-san screamed for help and ran down the stairs to help her. It was all in vain.May's neck was broken, her air cut off, and her head had split open. Brain and blood spattered the down stairs room. With all the commotion no one notice the figure in the corner, hidden in the shadow. Throwing the screw driver up in the air and catching it with his left hand, he whispered "Three to go". Later that day they will bury May beside Trudy and leave her to rest in peace.
Two days later,(at another meeting) Ebony was pacing the floor.
"Kc and Cloe, you two were on guard duty last night,"she stated.
"So?"Kc said, looking at her. Ebony stops in front of them, bends down and looks at them.
"So that makes you responsible,"she yells.
"No way! That rail was lose. Tai-san was there. She saw the whole thing! Ask her!"he spats back at her.
"We didn't do anything wrong! We wore on duty. You must believe us!" Cloe pleaded.
"We do,"said Salene.
" Yea. I mean some of the other bolts wore loose too. Jack and I tighten them a few minutes ago,"said Ryan.
"Fine! If that is how you all feel. Fine. But you better believe that I will find out who is behind all of this. You can count on that,"Ebony promised.
"We expect you to found out things. That is why you are head of security. But hey, if you can't handle the job I'm here,"stated Lex.
"I don't think so Lex! After all you would have to get up in the morning! All I'm saying is that, I find it hard to believe with all the death going on, you guys aren't more concerned," Ebony stated.
"Oh come off it, the rail was loose. It could have happened to anyone of us," said Kc.
"Yea, Trudy tried to kill herself before," Lex told the group.
"Kc is right,"Cloe put in her two cents. Kc looked at her with a smile. Cloe rolled her eyes at him and turned head, catching Jack's eyes. Jack smiled back at her, drumming his fingers on the table top. Jack knew what she was all about. She had a little chat with him a few nights ago. A big brother kinda talk. Poor Kc, he will have to go though hell before he reaches heaven.
"Okay! Okay! Ebony you are right. Do what you have to do. I'm behind you on this one. Everyone here will help her, understand," Amber stated. Everyone nodded their heads.
"Meeting adjourn!" Once again, Bray yelled.

The contruction for the green house was underway. With all the tribes agreeing with the idea, things were going smoothly. They decided to use the tractor to get some large stones out of the way. Ellie wanted to drive it, she drove loads of times with her dad. Alice ageed. However, that night, when all the were snuggled in their beds, the black hooded cloak figure once again emerges out of the shadows of the mall. He walks straight to the tractor. He takes old, brittle hoses and wires out of his left pocket and starts to replace these with the ones on the tractor. She was a trador, she dated Luke, she tried to talk him into running away, to be free, even though she knowing the crimes that he committed. He stepped back to look at his handy work. Smiling, he turns back to the mall, into its shadows, and disappears.
Early in the morning, with Alice and Jack standing behindher, Ellie climbs on the tractor. She turns and waves at her loved ones, standing side by side. She slips the key into the ignition and turns. Nothing. She tries again, this time the engine turns over but quickly dies. One more time and its running. Ellie turns agian and waves with a smile lighting her face. Jack and Alice waves back at her. She takes her left foot off the brake and her right on the accelerator. The tractor jolts forward, and she is off, at a very slow pace.
"Come on Jack, There is a lot of work we could be doing,"Alice said.
"I just wanted to think of the idea, not actually do the work,"Jack mumbles. Alice laughs as she slaps him on the back, causing him to stumble forwords.
"Come on. It won't be that bad. Might even put a few muscles on your bones,"she said.
"Why is that if a guy is slim no one thinks he could hurt anybody? If I wanted to I could,"Jack replied.

~*~

Alice laugh and slapped him again. As they turn around and started to walk away, they heard a lound explosion right behind them. They quickly turned to see the tractor in a ball of fire.
"Ellie! No god not Ellie!" Alice screams. They start to run towards the tractor. Other tribes started to throw water on it, knowing it was useless, but felt helpless. They had to do something. Ned grabs Alice's arm as she runs past. This couses her to fall on her knees screaming Ellie's name over and over. Tears streaked down her cheeks. The tractor in a blurr from the tears. Ned kneels down beside her, to hold her. Ryan had stopped Jack before he got too close to the flames.
"There's nothing..., I'm sorry Jack,"Ryan whispered.
Now, with the tractor blown up and no one with FBI backround, everone thought bad wiring. Also, they didn't have a body to bury, so after the ashes cooled, Tai-san went down to the fried tractor and scooped up some aches into a lovely jar. Later that day, the tribe went to the shore to let Ellie's ashes blow free in the wind (or was it the tractor's ashes they let blow free in the wind). Meanwhile, Alice and Jack didn't attend the ceremony. Jack stayed in his room, away from everyone. Alice was in Ellie's room with red eyes. She held Ellie's pillow close to her face to breathed in her scent. Alice was thinking how she failed her parents, how she failed Ellie.
With incense candle all around her and legs acrossed, Tai-san was into a deep mediation that night. Maybe if she opened her eyes to see what was happing around her, she might have notice the large spider climbing out of her herbal bowl, which she had placed before her on the floor. With no thought on either the spider or Tai-san's mind, the spider climbed up her leg. She swatted at it absent mindedly. The spider took it as a threat and sunk its fangs into her leg.
"Ouch,"she cried, now opening her eyes to see the spider scurring under the table.
"Good-bye Supreme Mother,"said a voice in the shadows. With her eyes starting to blur, she couldn't make out the figure slipping out the door.
"No," she cried, dragging her numb legs across the floor.
"Hey Tai-san, do you want to...,"Lex's voice trailed off as he came into the room. "Help!" he yelled, as he scooped her into his arms.
"Spider." Was all she could whisper. She died a few hours later, with all the Mall Rats around her. Of course they will bury her with Trudy and May, keeping the tribe together. The spider had taken a hole though her wall that lead it to the sewer. It then made his way into the darkness, where it found a very pretty female spider. The two spiders expressed their feeling for each other, then the female ate the male for breakfast.

The elections of the Head L E A D E R was under way. Campaigns were popping up everywhere. Fights also broke out, keeping Lex and Ebony on their toes. Of course Amber was running for the Mall Rats, Jack was acting as her advisor just in case a problem came up with his idea. With Ambers calm voice of reasoning and Jack having all the right answers, it was no wounder the Mall Rats gain control of the city {Now I could write more on the whole political campaign, but it bores me. Not to ditch on anyone who finds it thrilling. Everyone to their own.}
Things ran smoothly for that week. The tribes layed fresh cement down for the green house floor. Working late in the new government building, Amber takes a break. She told everyone else to go home. She needed time to wine down. Now she sat at the window's edge and smiles. What would her parents think now. Would they be proud? Looking up at the stars, she makes a silent wish to see them just one more time. Amber turns around and sees a cloak figure standing before her. She felt fear crawl up her spine. Don't let him see how scared you are, she thought.
"Who are you and what do you want," she asked in a calm voice that surpised her.
"Does it really matter who I am Amber," the hooded shadow asked.
"You! You killed the others. How could you," she paused only for a second. "Your here to kill me tonight,"she said this realizing how much trouble she was in.
"Well duh. Why else would I be dressed to kill? I got the custume idea off a horror movie. Do you know which one I'm talking about?"he asked her. Amber gave him a weird look. What!, she thought. She slowly shook her head.
"You won't get away with this," she said, looking for away around him. There wasn't one! She would have to bolt for it.
"Yea that was in the movie too! Amber I have gotten away with it so far. What makes you think it will be differnt now," he said, with a hint of laughter in his voice. She looked down at the killers left hand and saw a thick cord. She then made a break for it. His reflexes were quick, he just reached over her head and slip the cord around her thin neck. He was even surpised how quickly it was done. She tried to fight, he would pull tighter. He had stepped far enough out of her reach when she tried to scratch at his eyes. The lack of air made her struggles weak. She then sunk onto her knees, the killer twisted the cord harder and tighter. Her eyse rolled up. Salva started to run down her chin. Her breathing came in tight gasping sounds. She begain to claw at her own neck, causing a small amount of blood to trickle to the floor as her unconscious head bounced off the tiled floor. He twisted the cord a little more and held on for a few more minutes. He then sat on the floor to get his strenght back. Putting the cord into the left pocket of the black hooded cloak, he says to the dead girl.
"You should have stayed dead Amber. You turned your back on us when we needed you. We grieved for you. We blamed ourself for your death. We needed you to lead and you played dead. Why couldn't you have stayed dead, Amber. Maybe then I wouldn't despise you so much." He shook his head as he stood up. Walking to the desk, he graps a tissue to wipe up the blood on the floor. With the tissue in side his pocket,he sighs and bends down to heave her onto his shoulder. He takes her out of the building to the green house where he drops the body into the wet cement. Her body sink to the bottom as he aplies fresh cement on top of her. He smoothes it out to make it all nice and neat. Turns around to the mall and slips in the hole that Ned and Alice made durning the time of the Chosen.
Morning came with the sounds of birds and sun shining. Talks of Amber's disappearance spread though the streets like wild fire.
The city demanded that Jack takes Amber's place till they find her.
With the constant hassle, he took the role of the High One. The first thing he did was to organize a search party. There was alot of volunteers.

~*~

Pride and Bray were to lead it. After three weeks talk of her ditching the city was the story on the street. On the fifth week, Bray and Pride were the only ones looking. They even started to look in nearing tribes, thinking that maybe she did split. Two months later(with Pride and Bray still looking) the green house was up and the first Tribe Tournaments were to start tomorrow. They were holding a bon fire tonight. Jack had made alot of progress in making the city become one of the leading tribes in the country. He made alot of good impressions on his citzens. They all loved him for it.
"Ebony?" Jack called to her as she walked pass his office.
"Yea", she asked, standing in the door way.
"Um. Look I was wondering if... Well if you would..um..stand with me tomorrow to open the gates to the torment fields," he spitted out. She looked at him. How he changed since the Chosen Era. There was something there that warned her of the danger and it put small chills though her body like little shock waves. Yea somewhere on the road to power Jack grew some balls.
"Sure. I'd like that. I'd like that a lot,"she answered.

~*~

Yea?" That's great," he gave her a shy smile. Ebony walked into the office to the desk he sat behind. She slightly touched his computer with a small touch of her finger.
"Um..Did you decide who you wanted to be your adviser?"she asked him, looking though her eye lashes. Watching her caress his computer with a promise behind it, Jack swallowed hard.

~*~

"Yea , I asked Ryan. I could always talk to him, sorta like a big brother. Besides sometimes it takes simple minds to find a simple answer,"Jack replied.
"Your right about that,"she gave him a smile."Have you given any thought to Amber's disappearance?"
"Everytime I have to make a decision,"he tells her.
"Maybe something will pop up later,"Ebony said.
"Yea, maybe,"he agreed."Are you going to the bon-fire tonight?"
"You kidding! I wouldn't miss it for the world." she answered"I'll be there to watch your back."
"I'd like that, Ebony," he said."Don't forget to bring something for luck."
"I won't," Ebony replies as she leaves the room with a small wave.

That night the remaining Mall Rats gathered around the edge of the fire, that the other tribes had started. Smoke was raising in the air and tree branches gave off a red hot glow. Cloe walks away from the group, towards the fire. She looks down at her hands and gave her teddy bear one last hug.
"Time to grow up,"she whispers to the hot flames, then, taking a glance over her shoulder, she smiles at Kc. Kc walks up to stand beside her. He gives her a shy smile. Then he holds a pile of paper up for the other members to see.
"This here is a written account of the things I have done wrong in the past few years,"he tells them. Then with a smile, he throws the paper into the fire.Kc turns around to his friends."Well almost everything. I ran out of paper."
Ryan walks up and throws in a shower cap with holes though it. The cap melts instantly. Salene had her an old shredded dress to hand over to the greedy flames. It was one that she tried to seduce Bray with. Ebony gave over a picture of her and Bray holding a baby. Lex threw in a good bottle of whiskey, but gave off a merry laugh when the flames gave a drunken dance. Everyone backed out of the reaching flames path. Ned, well Ned threw in a piece of wood that he had picked up on his way to the bon-fire.That was okay, because Alice threw in his gum. Jack smiled as he walked towards the flames and tossed in a neatly folded black hooded cloak, with a piece of cord in its left pocket. To the hungry flames he whispered"Seven down."
"Let the party begin!" Lex holwed to the crowed.
Jack stood there and watched the flames burn holes though the cloth. Ebony came to stand by his side. She looks up at him and watches the fire's lights cast shadows around his face. She turns her attention to the cloak, burning in the heat of the fire. She reaches for his hand and squeezes it. He squeezes back and bends down to whisper in her ear.
"We really should reseal that hole in the basement wall."Ebony lifts her head up to look at his face. A slow smile plays on her lips.
"I'll keep care of that tomorrow," she stated. He smiles, looking down at her. Over head the sky begins to cloud. The first rain drop lands on Jack's cheek. Ebony reaches up to brush it off. Jack gently graps her arm and kiss her wrist.
"Have I ever told you how much I love the rain?" he asked her.Now its starting to pour. The rain coming down in sheets, making the fire hiss in disapproval. Tribes run for shelter in buildings, to finish out the party inside. Leaving Ebony and Jack alone on the street.
"Would you like to dance with me, Ebony?"
"Now! We will get cold and wet,"she says in a surprised voice.
"Can't you tell when a guy is trying to be romantic? Besides, we both are already wet and I promise I'll warm you up later," Jack promise her in a seductive voice. She smiles and wraps her arms around his neck and then they begin to sway to the drops of rain in the velvet night's sky. At the bottom of a cliff that over looks the city from the north, a sickle washes up from the ocean. It's blade rusty from indurning the harsh salt water. The handle is just a piece of rotten wood.
And that is how this story goes.
